NovelsI haven't actually written a novel yet, but I am working on one. It is the story of Kleo, the daughter of a fisherman and a mender of nets on the island of Pharos. Since her parents died of a fever when she was three years old, Kleo has been raised by the priestesses who live in the ruins of the Place of the Gods and maintain a pointless worship because the gods themselves, Kaltos Wind-Father, foam-white Thalassia, and dark Meropion, have been absent from Pharos for generations. The story begins when Tyrrhus, prince of the House of Iolkos, comes to Pharos and tells the Mother of Shadows that a monster, one of the Gorgae, has been destroying villages throughout the islands of the Aegon Sea. He asks her to summon the gods so he can ask for their help in defeating the Gorga. In the Theater of the Winds, high above the sea, the gods are summoned, and Kleo watches in horror as they give Tyrrhus exactly what he asks for including Kleo herself as bait. Would you like to meet Kleo, her companions Penelope and Idonea, the Prince and his retinue, the Mother of Shadows and the priestesses of the Place of the Gods? Below is a draft of my first chapter, originally written at the Odyssey writing workshop. Students of classical Greek will almost, but not quite, recognize the names I have used in that chapter. Kleo's world is rather like Bronze Age Greece but far more dangerous. Home Page |
